SC restores Cong Govt in Arunachal Pradesh

ITANAGAR, Jul 13: The Supreme Court on Wednesday has restored Congress rule in Arunachal Pradesh and declared the Governor's decision to dismiss the deposed Nabam Tuki government illegal.
After months of delay, the five bench judges of the Court headed by Justice J S Khehar in a unanimous verdict said that Governor J P Rajkhowa's decision to advance the State Legislative Assembly session by a month was a violation of the Constitution and liable to be quashed.
The verdict "turned the clock back" to Dec 15, restoring the political status quo.
Tuki government was dismissed after 21 Congress MLAs rebelled against him, turning the state into a battleground of power and instability, overseen and guided by the Governor. The Centre was quick to impose President's Rule on Jan 26, effectively making Congress powerless. The leader of the rebel Congress Kalikho Pul to was sworn-in as Chief Minister on February 19 with the support of 11 BJP MLAs. Later on, the new Govt joined People's Party of Arunachal. The Governor had preponed the Legislative session by a month in Dec which threw the state into complete political chaos. Later, the Speaker, who was removed, went to the Court asking whether the Governor had the power to call a special session of the Assembly without consultation with the state govt.
Deposed Speaker Nabam Rebia said that the move of the Governor was politically motivated and he was acting on the behest of the BJP to topple the democratically-elected Govt.
On Dec 9, Governor had fixed the resolution removing the Speaker from the office as the first item of business, which was held outside the assembly hall on December 16. A day before, Speaker disqualified 14 MLAs of Congress. However a day later in December 16, drama unfolded as Deputy Speaker, Tenzing Norbu Thongdok ordered the removal of the Speaker. The Chief Minister was voted out as well.
Even though, the SC verdict has come as a major embarrassment for Centre, the ouster of Kalikho Pul is likely to a short time as he has the support in the 58-member Assembly.
Spokesperson and Congress MLA Bamang Felix expressed the hope that MLAs who have deserted the Congress will be back to the fold with the Supreme Court verdict. Bamang Tago, the political secretary in the Tuki Govt said that Tuki and Congress stands vindicated with the Supreme Court verdict.
Even as the Supreme Court gave the verdict, the Chief ministers of BJP and it's allies including Kalikho Pul are meeting Amit Shah as he launched North East Democratic Alliance in Guwahati, a platform that will spearhead a Congress mukth North East.
Governor can’t embroil in ‘Political Thicket’, says SC
New Delhi, Jul 13: Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered restoration of the Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh by quashing as "unconstitutional" Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa's decision to advance the assembly session, saying he cannot embroil himself in any "political thicket" or take "individual call" when an elected government enjoys majority in the House.
He must keep clear of any political horse-trading and even unsavoury political manipulations, irrespective of the degree of their ethical repulsiveness and avoid acting as the "ombudsman" of the state legislature, it said.
In its unanimous verdict, a five-judge constitution bench headed by Justice J S Khehar held that when the Chief Minister and his council of Ministers have majority in the House, power vested with the Governor under Article 174 of the Constitution to summon, prorogue and dissolve the House must be exercised in consonance with their aid and advice and this was binding. "It is not within the realm of the Governor to embroil himself in any political thicket. The Governor must remain aloof from any disagreement, discord, disharmony, discontent or dissension, within individual political parties."
"The activities within a political party, confirming turbulence, or unrest within its ranks, are beyond the concern of the Governor. The Governor must keep clear of any political horse-trading, and even unsavoury political manipulations, irrespective of the degree of their ethical repulsiveness," the bench, also comprising Justices Dipak Misra, Madan B Lokur, P C Ghose and N V Ramana, said.
Dealing with the Governor's powers, the bench said it is not within his domain to interfere with the functions of the Speaker as the Governor is neither a guide, nor a mentor to the Speaker and has no role whatsoever in the removal of Speaker or Deputy Speaker.
"Both the Governor and Speaker have independent constitutional responsibilities," Justice Khehar, writing the judgement for himself and Justices Ghose and Ramana, said. PTI
Arunachal verdict: Oppn warns Modi govt against ‘misuse of power’
Cong wants immediate sacking of Arunachal Governor
New Delhi, Jul 13: Opposition today hit out at the Modi government over the Supreme Court's verdict on Arunachal Pradesh with Congress President Sonia Gandhi saying it will deter it from "misuse of power" and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal calling the order a "tight slap" on its "dictatorial tendencies".
Congress also demanded the immediate sacking of Governor Jyoti Prasad Rajkhowa and demanded an apology from all those involved in the decision of toppling the government.
Government said it will do a "structured examination" of the order and its implications before making a detailed response.
Top Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the party president asserting that those who trampled upon constitutional propriety and democratic norms stand defeated today.
Rahul Gandhi took a dig at Modi as he thanked the apex court for "explaining to him (PM) what democracy is".
"Those who had trampled upon constitutional propriety and democratic norms have been defeated today.
This judgement, that firmly establishes the democratic values enshrined in our constitution, will deter the Union Government from any further “misuse of power,” Sonia said in a statement.
She also welcomed the "historic" verdict reinstating the "democratically elected and unconstitutionally removed" government.
"We want the Governor to submit his resignation immediately and if he does not do so, we will ask for him to be dismissed both outside and inside Parliament," senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said while hailing the Supreme Court verdict restoring the Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh as "historic." "I have heard that Rajkhowa is on leave, he should go on long leave," he further said.
Sibal also demanded an apology from Union Ministers who were involved in the decision of imposition of President's Rule in the state.
Sibal also demanded that there be a thorough probe into the alleged taped conversations of BJP leaders with a businessman conspiring to topple the Congress government in the state with the same "alacrity" as one initiated against Harish Rawat in Uttarakhand.
He said "this particular decision of the Supreme Court is historic in every sense of the word, because never before in the history of this country has the Supreme Court restored the status quo ante, having stuck down actions of Constitutional authorities by using unconstitutional means to bring down governments".
"I salute the Supreme Court for having upheld constitutional values on the basis of which only democracy can survive," he said.
Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal also hit out at the government.
"SC judgement is yet another tight slap on dictatorial Modi govt. Hope Modi ji would learn and now stop interfering in democratically elected governments," Kejriwal tweeted.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat, who had also got relief from the apex court, lauded the verdict. "My heartfelt gratitude to the Supreme Court for restoring Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh. Judiciary has restored faith of people in democracy," Rawat said in a social media post. PTI
NEDA to bring Northeast closer to mainland: Shah

Guwahati, Jul 13: BJP president Amit Shah today expressed optimism over the newly formed North East Democratic Alliance, saying it will bring the region closer to mainland India during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's governance.
"North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) will play an important role in attaching northeast to mainland India. NEDA's contribution will be written in golden letters in changing the history of NE," he said at the first conclave of the alliance here.
The foundation of NEDA is a history in itself as it was set up with the formation of the new government in Assam, he said.
"Although BJP is the largest party in the country at present, but the importance of the other smaller regional parties, which NEDA comprises of, is always equal to the largest party. So, BJP's importance in NEDA is never above the regional parties," Shah said.
The BJP chief said the region is full of potentials with rich natural resources, which can attract tourists in huge numbers.
"But even after 68 years of Independence, northeast is not developed, while many areas in India have developed.
Problems like infiltration, insurgency and the Centre not giving enough attention are to be blamed for this," Shah said.
He said the Modi government is giving top priority to the region and issued instruction that at least one union minister visits the region in every 15 days.
Assam Finance Minister and NEDA Convener Himanta Biswa Sarma said the organisation will play crucial role in having a Congress-free northeast.
"In 2019 Lok Sabha polls, there will be no Congress MP from northeast. All the 25 MPs from the region will be from NEDA," he said adding NEDA will also come to power in Meghalaya and Manipur after the coming Assembly polls.
Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said the overall security scenario of the region has improved since 2014, when the Modi government came to power.
"Except Sikkim, almost entire northeast is affected by militancy problem. Only two per cent of it is connected to the mainland and the rest 98 per cent is attached to neighbouring countries. So security on border is very important," he added.
Rijiju announced that fencing work along the Indo-Bangla border in Assam, Meghalaya and Mizoram will be over by 2017.
"We will issue a booklet within two months on what we have done for people of North East," he said.
Rijiju also appealed to all the northeast states not to engage in inter-border disputes among themselves.
DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh said the government is working to improve connectivity in the region's eight states.

Attending the first convention of NEDA Chief Minister Kalikho Pul hailed the launch of the NEDA platform as a watershed moment calling it as the beginning of a new era for the people of the region.
He observed that though NEDA has emerged from the necessity of a political mandate, it could also play a much bigger role with a social and developmental mandate.
Pul emphasized that NEDA is not merely a political platform, but is the crystallization of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a new development model for north-eastern states by which the collective strength of the region can be harnessed and its dreams achieved.
"For decades, our region has been a black hole for business and enterprise. Endemic conflicts, geographical isolation and historical neglect have led to a drying up of investments, and the lack of economic and social development of the region," he lamented saying that this was despite the rich natural and human resources that the region offers for investment and growth.
But with the NDA government at the Centre with its call of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas" and northeast being on the top of its priority, it's a very positive and favourable sign, asserted the Chief Minister.
Observing that there are lot of issues that overlap between the states in the region -- whether it is the shared borders that need clear boundary demarcation or the idea of sharing water and even road connectivity, Pul hoped that NEDA, as a coalition of strong regional parties will emerge as a major coordination platform to jointly address the issues that confront the region.
Further stressing that the region being largely tribal, he called for a strong sense of ethnic and religious identity to be reassured so it is not under threat at any cost.
"To do this, we will need to accommodate a broader idea of an alliance driven on politics and development as opposed to one driven on religion or community," said Pul and emphasised on NEDA having the advantage of being regional in character, but national in outlook.
He urged for NEDA to ensure that not only are each of its component parties given a space to reflect their mandate, but within its larger structure, each one of these different aspirations need to be accommodated.
CM Pul also emphasised that a platform like NEDA could be a key to success of the Act East Policy as any initiative that is taken up under the umbrella of this policy will involve each of the north eastern states for its successful implementation.

SC verdict on Arunachal ‘very strange’: BJP
NEW DELHI, Jul 13: BJP today appeared critical of the Supreme Court verdict on Arunachal Pradesh, saying it is a "very strange order" that the leader with the majority support is being asked to sit in the opposition and also wondered if the verdict "weakens" the democratic spirit.
Asserting that numerical strength was very important in democracy, it said the current Chief Minister Kalikho Pul has the number to run the government and not his predecessor Nabam Tuki, whose government has been revived by the judgement.
"Much water has flowed down in the last seven months. The order certainly raises a question as to whether it strengthens the democratic spirit or weakens it. This is a question as it appears from the verdict that the one having the majority is being asked to sit in the opposition and the one who has lost it is being asked to run the government.
"This is a very strange order and that is why it is being studied. The person who has the majority, who is running the government presently is being asked to be in the opposition," party national secretary Shrikant Sharma told a press conference.
Sharma, though, insisted that he was not commenting on the verdict and the party will study it before making a response.
The numbers in the Arunachal Pradesh assembly, he said, were with Pul and not Tuki.
"In democracy, the one with the numbers runs the government. And the numbers are with the current Chief Minister not Tuki," he said.
In a major embarrassment to BJP and the Centre, the Supreme Court today ordered restoration of the Congress government in the state by quashing all the Governor's decisions that had precipitated its fall in January, holding them "violative" of the Constitution. PTI
Donate land free of cost for GFA, says PRI leaders

ITANAGAR, Jul 13: The Panchayati Raj leaders of Karsingsa- Banderdewa on Wednesday alleged that proposed Green Field Airport(GFA) was shifted from Karsingsa to Hollongi with a motive to bag hundreds crore of rupees from land compensation, in which top politicians and their kiths and kins are allegedly involved.
In a press conference held here, Anchal Samity Member Kipa Taniang who filed Public Interest Litigation(PIL) against the transfer of airport claimed there is a huge amount supposed to be paid to land donors as land compensation, whereas most of the land area of the proposed project site falls under Durpang Reserve Forest.
“We only need airport. We are even ready to cooperate for Hollongi site if the people of Hollongi are ready to donate the land for free of cost like we did,” said Taniang, adding that airport is the most necessary civic amenity and its development shouldn’t be hampered.
“We have no objection for Hollongi site also, but it needs to be constructed immediately,” he asserted while maintaining that the people of Hollongi should give up the compensation claims and donate the land for free of cost for the project.
The PRI leaders and public further appealed every citizen of the state to cooperate and support for construction of airport in the vicinity of Capital Complex at the earliest instead of making unnecessary issue out of it.
The statement came in the wake of Chief Minister Kalikho Pul’s alleged letter written to Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Ashok Gajapathi Raju, endorsing Karsingsa for development of Green Field Airport.
It also added that actual reason for delay in construction of Green Field Airport was claiming of higher amount as land compensation by high profile politicians and private party, illegal preparation of land compensation in the name of 156 Chakma-Hajong refugees.
It is said that the project cost of Green Field Airport (GFA) at Karsingsa was @Rs 1000 crore (approx) while Rs 1450 crore (approx) would be involved at Hollongi site.
Prior to the Hollongi site, the state govt had chosen two sites - Emchi near Gumto and Poma - for the location of the airport which were rejected on various reasons.
The state Govt had selected Karsingsa, 25 km from Itanagar as suitable place for the project. The then Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil laid the foundation stone on February 20, 2007 for the project with cost of Rs 650 crore, with assurance of full support from the Centre. But later in 2011, with the technical committee of Airport Authority of India (AAI) recommending Hollongi as suitable site for the project, the project faced a delay of more than four years.
CRPF distribute sports items to schools
SEPPA, Jul 13: The 138 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) under its Civil Action Programme (CAP) distributed sports items to various schools of Seppa town at BRC office here on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner Rajeev Takuk, who was also present on the occasion, appreciated the CRPF for organizing such programmes aimed at maintaining a good civil-military relations. He said that this kind of activity by the CRPF develop a sense of respect to the military forces guarding the border and supporting the civil administration in maintaining peace in the society.
He advised the students to have determination to do something for the nation by becoming a good citizen with sound health. He also expressed happiness to know that the CRPF are organizing Bharat Dharsan Tour for the exposures of the students.

Arunachal to host All India Sr. Ranking Badminton Tournament
BAI official inspects badminton facilities
ITANAGAR, Jul 14: Badminton Association of India (BAI) Secretary (T) K Ch. Punnaiah Choudary on Wednesday inspected indoor facilities for badminton in Itanagar to hold the All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament during September this year.
The BAI Secretary, who arrived in the city on Tuesday night taking time out of his tight schedule preparing the national badminton team for the ensuing Rio Olympics, thoroughly inspected the Raj Bhawan Badminton Stadium and MLA Cottage Badminton Hall and expressed satisfaction with the facilities available.
He also inspected few hotels to take stock of the accommodation and other facilities available.
BAI has shouldered Arunachal to host the All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament from September 20 to 25.
The BAI Secretary was accompanied by Arunachal State Badminton Association President Techi Rotu, Secretary Bamang Tago and officials of ASBA during his inspection.
In the meantime, ASBA Secretary Tago informed that BAI has approved to organize the tournament in Itanagar as scheduled.
Tuki resumes duty as CM
NEW DELHI, Jul 13: In compliance with the Order of the Supreme Court regarding the restoration of status quo ante to 15th December 2015, Nabam Tuki resumed his duties as Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh today at Arunachal Bhavan , New Delhi . A communication from his side regarding the same was sent to Governor of Arunachal (acting) Tathagata Roy. He also spoke to the Chief Secretary and DGP regarding the future course of his Government after his arrival at Itanagar tomorrow, a press statement said. A copy of the letter to Governor is also provided to media for due reference.
"I have taken the charge as Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh. Tomorrow I am going to Itanagar. Immediately after reaching Itanagar, I will convene a meeting of council of ministers. Subsequently, I will also convene a meeting of Congress Legislature Party, My government will devote itself for the welfare of people of Arunachal Pradesh on priority," Tuki told PTI at New Delhi.
Meanwhile, Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi told NDTV that Nabam Tuki stands re-instated as chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh as per Supreme Court ruling. "The Centre has nothing to do with this case. The Governor is party to this case. He will have to honour the Supreme Court judgment," he said.
Earlier, Tuki termed the SC verdict as “historic” and said it has protected democracy.
“The Supreme Court verdict today is historic. It paves way to protect healthy democracy in the country,” Tuki said.
He said the Constitution of the country and democracy have been protected.
“BJP leaders tried to remove elected governments in states illegally… the apex court verdict has restored justice,” Tuki said. PTI
Pul to seek review of Supreme Court verdict
GUWAHATI, Jul 13: Putting up a brave front, Kalikho Pul on Wednesday said there was no threat to his government and that he will file a review petition in the Supreme Court on its judgment that ordered the restoration of the previous Congress government in Arunachal Pradesh.
Pul, said, “[Our] government will remain. That will be decided on the floor of the Assembly. Government runs only with the numbers. There is no threat to our government,” he told reporters in Guwahati.
“Definitely, I will file a review petition. Let me at first go through the detail judgment and then consult legal experts. We had formed the government as per procedure. We paraded 32 MLAs in front of the Governor and proved our majority,” he said adding that he followed the legal and constitutional procedures. PTI
Population Stabilization Fortnight
ITANAGAR, Jul 13: Population Stabilization Fortnight (PSF) with theme “Zimmedari Nibhao Plan Banao” is being observed across the state from July 11 to 24.
In West Siang, various birth control education activities, health and family planning camps, counselling of eligible couple, distribution of condoms etc were organized in all the facilities of the district as part of the PSF by the district health team led by DFWO Dr. Kengo Ori.
The main function was organized at remote Tadin village, where more 1000 people are living without proper medical facility.
In total, 110 patients attended the camp and one serious patient was referred to General Hospital Aalo.
Four women have decided to adopt IUCD method of family planning while 1 will adopt permanent method.
Villagers, panchayat leaders, ASHAs, Gaon Bura and students attended the programme.
At Tezu, a rally was organized by District Health Society (Lohit) on Tuesday to create awareness among people about small family norm and the importance of adopting family planning.
Students and staff of the Health and Family Welfare Department took part in the rally holding placards and banners reading “Small Family Happy Family,” Zimmedari Nibhao Plan Banao etc.”
The rally which was flagged off by Sub-divisional Officer Gautam Hazarika, started from the premises of District Hospital Tezu and passed through the main thoroughfare of the township.

Consumer awareness campaign
TAWANG, Jul 13: An awareness programme to sensitize the consumer about their rights and responsibilities as enshrined in the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 began at Govt. Higher Secondary School Bomdila on Wednesday organized by the Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Affairs (LMCA), Tawang.
Assistant Controller (LM &CA), West Kameng district spoke at length about various provisions under Consumer Protection Act, the meaning of consumer and their rights and the procedure to file a complaint regarding any grievances and dispute at consumer dispute redressal forum.
While insisting on buying quality products, Tawang Circle Officer, who presided over the inaugural programme, urged consumer to attend the programme and educate themselves about their rights and duties to become a conscious consumer.
Headmaster in-charge Kesang Dakpa also spoke on the occasion.
Teachers, students and nearby residents participated in the programme enthusiastically.
Similar programmes would also be conducted at Higher Secondary School and Govt. Secondary School, Tawang on July 14 and 15 as part of the three-day campaign.

CBSE launches Udaan
ITANAGAR, Jul 13: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) under the guidance of MHRD, GoI has launched Udaan - a program aimed at addressing low enrollment of girl students in prestigious engineering institutions and the teaching gap between school education and engineering entrance exam.
Under the program, students are provided free offline/online resources through virtual weekend contact classes and study material on preloaded tablet while studying in Class XI and Class XII for preparation of admission test to various premiere engineering colleges in the country.
Girl students currently enrolled in Class XI with physics, chemistry, mathematics (PCM) subjects only from KVs/ JNVs government schools of any recognized boards in India/CBSE affiliated private schools whose annual family income is less than Rs. 6 lakhs per annum can apply online from July 4 to 13.

DFP conducts special outreach prog at Kitpi
ITANAGAR, Jul 13: The Directorate of Field Publicity, Tawang unit coordination with village panchayat members organized Special Outreach Programme at Kitpi village on Wednesday to sensitize the rural people about the various Flagship programmes of the Government of India.
The experts from Bank, agriculture, education, medical, industries and ICDS Tawang briefed the gathering about the Yojanas and Abhiyans implemented by the concern department.
Anchal Chairperson of Kitpi block Leki Phuntso while lauding the effort of the DFP hoped the people of kitpi block would immensly benefi from the awareness campaigns.
The meeting ended with distribution of prizes to the winners of the various sports events organized as a part of the programme.

Strict action sought against unauthorized schools/coaching institutions
ITANAGAR, Jul 13: The All Papum Pare Indigenous Youth Federation (APPIYF) has in a letter to the Director of Secondary Education on Wednesday appealed to him to initiate strict action against unauthorized private schools and coaching institutions running within the Capital Complex and book them as per provisions of the law.
It has alleged that many unregistered private schools and coaching institutions which are not even CBSE affiliated are currently running in the Capital Complex and thereby violating strict orders of the Papum Pare, DDSE which has directed such institutions to close down.
Contributions/donations banned
ITANAGAR, Jul 13: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has in a release on Wednesday said that all types of contribution/donation in the name of the Union have been prohibited, unless, it is endorsed by the head of the union.
It further said that strict action as per the law will be taken against those found violating the order.
Firing practice at Raneghat
PASIGHAT, Jul 13: East Siang Deputy Commissioner Isha Khosla on Wednesday granted 1839 Pioneer Unit C/O 99 APO, Camp Rayang to conduct firing practice at Raneghat firing range, near Dangoria Baba Mandir, Sille River, Pasighat area on July 16 and 17 from 8 am to 3 pm.
The Deputy Commissioner advised the people of Bogong area, head of departments and institutions not to allow cattles, other animals and human being to move within the firing range. DIPRO
Veterinary team sought to control FMD outbreak
ITANAGAR, Jul 13: Informing that the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) is threatening the mithun population in the remote villages of Nyapin, Nyobia, Sangram and Phassang Circles under Kurung Kumey district, the Nyapin Nyobia Sangram Phassang Students’ Union (NNSPSU) has in a representation to the Directorate, Veterinary & Animal Husbandry on Wednesday appealed to him to immediately dispatch a team of veterinary doctors to the aforementioned villages to prevent further spread of the disease.
Claiming that the remote villages of Yuba, Gaga, Paji and Laba are the worst affected areas, the union further said that the disease might cause much loss to the villagers if no preventive measure is initiated soon.
The union also sought early establishment of a veterinary health center at Phassang Circle.
Directorate of Land Management staff no more
ITANAGAR, Jul 13: Punyo Tabing, who was serving as Assistant in the office of the Directorate of Land Management, Itanagar, has died on July 9 last after prolonged illness.
She joined the department as LDC on Aug 19, 1988 and was later promoted to the post of Assistant on June 18, 2004.
The officers and staffs of the department of Land Management in a condolence meeting conducted on July 11 last, prayed to the Almighty for the eternal peace of the departed soul and to bestow enough strength to the family to bear the irreparable loss.

While reacting to judgment Chief Minister Kalikho Pul stated that there is no threat to his government and that he will file a review petition in the Supreme Court. Opposition parties took maximum mileage out of apex court verdict and claimed it to be a slap on the face of Narendra Modi government. While political battle over judgment continues it also raises serious concern over future of state. These kind of political crises do not augur well for the state. In the last one year Arunachal has been through series of political crisis. Just when everyone thought things are getting stable this judgment has come. All the stakeholders be it political parties, supporters and leaders should gracefully accept apex court verdict. Let there be no law and order issue.

Incredible Arunachal verdict and the near future

Supreme Court’s verdict on Arunachal Pradesh came as a reason to rejoice for the Congress party which until recently was bogged down in the region with the defeat in Assam and the consolidation of opposing power in the form of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA).

While the thumping Congress leaders and the opposition in New Delhi rushed to give bytes to television channels and tweet about how it’s a victory of democracy in India, Arunachal Pradesh – which often goes unnoticed in the media – basked in some much awaited glory! Tweets started pouring in and most of the top trends on the social media proved Arunachal was being talked about.
Does the apex court verdict qualify to be termed as ‘victory for democracy’? Why almost each and every supporter of the grand old party started tweeting, posting, screaming and poking the ‘fact’ that this indeed is a victory for democracy in India? Since when Arunachal became such an occasion for the national leaders, be it of any party, to celebrate?
It will be interesting to see how further developments in the state get covered in the national media. Will the media coverage die a silent death after the initial upsurge or will the media push the envelope this time. As the state goes into yet another political crisis, it needs to be seen how and who will become the ‘legitimate’ chief minister next. For the Congress, it is a situation where they should try to form the government. They have the moral right now. But for the new ‘opposition’, the numbers tell they are at the front. Or are they?
Numbers… It will be interesting to see how the 60 seats of the state Assembly are coloured this time. 14 disqualified, 11 of the BJP, handful of ‘Congress rebels’… Are we on the brink of yet another election? If yes, the 11 BJP MLAs – who tasted power for the first time – would be wondering, what is in our stars?
The whole fiasco in the state led to establishment of many power centers, besides Khaliko Pul emerging as the challenger to the then chief minister Nabam Tuki. One of the biggest beneficiaries of this shift of power was Chowna Mein, deputy chief minister in the Khaliko Pul government. It would be interesting to see in the coming days how the power centres cope to the Supreme Court judgment – which in all sense is a landmark one.

Postponed interview
Dear Editor,
This is regarding notification for conduction of written exam of teachers under the director of secondary education which was published in your esteemed daily on 8th July. In this regard we would like to request to the concerned authority to please kindly postpone it to last month of September.
July and August are the rainiest month in our state. These are the months of flood and landslide. As a result roads especially connecting district and other remote area often gets damaged. Many areas thus remain cut off from rest of the country. Reports of damaging of road have started to appear in local daily and so candidate of district and remote areas may miss the interview due to natural calamity. It will be injustice and mental harassment for the candidates who have been honestly preparing for the said exam. Hence, it is not a good decision to conduct any kind of job interview in these two months in our state.
All the applicants for above mentioned job are not from the capital region. They cannot afford to come in advance and stay in hotel for the interview.
Therefore we on the behalf of candidate of remote area request the concern authorities to hold this exam in the last week of September.

There should be equal pay grade

I am working for DST as a Labour Supervisor and our grade pay is too low i.e. Rs
1900/-
I would like to ask why it is so. We all know every job is different from each other but they all have their own importance, one can't be on its own as they are all connected. So I request our government to think over it as we all have our families to feed and hope our government would have a concern.
